PATRONAGE AND OWNERS – The work was commissioned by Gian Galeazzo Visconti to Giovannino de’ Grassi. The work was suspended because of the death of Gian Galeazzo and then started again when his son Filippo Maria Visconti became Duke in 1412. Later owners were the Visconti di Modrone, Baron Horace Landau (1824-1903) and Madame Hugo Finaly (1850-1938).
